Peak Week 2007

During late August I travelled the length of the peninsula taking in five of our hills in five days, from Mynydd Anelog to Llŷn's highest peak of Yr Eifl. As you will see, the weather was mostly good for the walks with an amazing finish on Friday afternoon!
Braich-y-Pwll & Ynys Enlli (Bardsey)Monday 20th - Mynydd Anelog

Lying near the tip of the peninsula, Mynydd Anelog is only 192 metres in height, however, it's close proximity to the sea on three sides, and it's steep slopes make it feel much higher, the walk is relatively short, but the path is steep and uneven towards the top. Click for larger versions...

The Moelwyn from the summit of Moel-y-GestTuesday 21st - Moel-y-Gest

Near the southeast limit of Llŷn is Moel-y-Gest, at only 262m it still towers over Porthmadog, and offers some amazing views. The walk is quite steep and rocky, with some scrambling near the summits! Take care on the lower slopes where loose slate is slippy. Click for larger versions...

Garn Boduan lies inland of Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn on the north side of the peninsula. The walk up is generally gentle, but beware of rocks and tree roots hidden in the heather and undergrowth. There are panoramic views from the top. Click an image for a larger version...

Garn Fadryn lies at the heart of the peninsula, and on a clear day offers spectacular views in all directions, but not today! Too misty for exploring the remains of the hill's ancient forts. The walk is not too long but steep in parts, with care needed over rocks higher up. Click for larger photos...

Friday 24th - Yr Eifl

The three peaks of Yr Eifl dominate the skyline of Llŷn. I climbed the centre and highest of the three peaks, which stands at 564m high, making it the highest point on the peninsula, and being so close to the sea it feels even higher. A tough walk but worth it!



The mist cleared whilst I was on the summit of Yr Eifl and the stunning views revealed themselves before me - a fantastic end to a very enjoyable and interesting week! Click on any of the images for a larger version.
