South-east Llyn is where
the mountains of Snowdonia roll down into Tremadog Bay. Porthmadog is the
gateway to Llyn, and has a long high street full of shops. Criccieth is a
small seaside town and is overlooked by it's castle ruins on a small hill
jutting out into the sea.
Other smaller villages in
this area are:
Tremadog - Built by
William Alexander Madocks and the childhood home of "Lawrence of Arabia".
Borth-y-gest -
Picturesque little village on the side of the Glaslyn Estuary, a couple of
shops and lots of walks around the surrounding countryside and estuary
side.
Morfa Bychan and Black
Rock Sands - Black Rock Sands is probably the biggest beach on Llyn,
when the tide is out. The beach is good for bathing and beach games. The
seaside village of Morfa Bychan lines the back of the beach and is home to
the Porthmadog Golf Course.
Llanystumdwy -
Childhood home of Lloyd George. Now has a museum in his memory, he is
buried on an island in the Afon Dwyfor.
