Pen Llŷn - The Llŷn Peninsula
The Llŷn Peninsula is one of Wales' finest beauty areas, with
about 25% of the peninsula being a designated area of outstanding
natural beauty. There's over a 50 mile stretch of Heritage
Coastline, with nearly 100 miles of coast in all.
Pwllheli is the unofficial capital of Llŷn, with it's weekly open
air market in Y Maes, one of the busiest in Britain. The town also
offers a wide range of other services including supermarkets,
shops, cafes and restaurants.
The coast of Llŷn is spectacular, from islands to cliffs, and wide
sandy beaches to small hidden coves, there is no shortage of
variety! The south coast has often been referred to as "The Welsh
Riviera" with it's miles of golden sands, small harbours and
villages.
Pwllheli is an ideal base from which to explore the coast by boat,
with St. Tudwal's Roads, Porthmadog, Aberdaron and Barmouth all
fairly close by. Porth Dinllaen, Aberystwyth, Holyhead and even
the east coast of Ireland are all accessible by boat from
Pwllheli, though of course, it takes a little longer to get there!
The Marina Boat Club is a fantastic amenity to all boaters wishing
to explore this area (temporary memberships available for the
duration of your holiday on request), as well as to those who come
back for more year after year.
