The recent development of good wide paths in this local nature reserve
opens it up to be enjoyed by all.
These saltwater marshes are protected by the Cob and are below the
high tide mark on the other side of the embankment. Sluice gates
ensure that the area does not flood. This area is full of wildlife and
yet is in the middle of the town! The board walks on the opposite side
of the road to the car park are also worth a look as they end up at
Pont Solomon where there are lots of ducks, swans and herons.
You can walk wherever you like around the network of paths in the
nature reserve. However, a nice loop is to walk through the main
entrance (pictured above) and keep left until you reach a tree lined
path where you turn left and then next right. Continue along the side
of a field where where are often horses on the other side of the fence
and you will come out just below the road on the Cob embankment. Walk
around a pool that is to your left and on to the smaller road that
comes down from the Cob (this road is called Lon Cob Bach). Walk along
the raised path that runs alongside the road - look out for the
lookout to the right with it's views across the Afon Rhyd-hir to the
town centre and Pen-y-Garn beyond. This path will lead you back to the
start.
