| Say it!: |
Y Cob: uh-cob
Porthmadog: as it looks
Yr Wyddfa: ur (roll the r) with-va
Moelwyn: moil-win
Cnicht: as it looks (ch as Scottish "Loch") |

The Cob is the artificial embankment (shown above) that was built by
William Madocks to reclaim thousands of acres of land from the sea.
Though this may seem like a dull walk, there is a lot to see. The
Ffestiniog Railway runs alongside the path, there are boats coming in
and going out of the harbour, you can watch the tide run up or down
the huge mass of sand to the south west and even see the summit of Yr
Wyddfa (Snowdon) and other Snowdonia mountains such as the Moelwyn and
Cnicht.
This is the gateway to the Llŷn Peninsula from the south, with the
A487 running along the Cob below you.
Start at the Ffestiniog Railway Station on the harbour side in
Porthmadog and walk along the Cob as far as you like and then back
again - that's it! At the far end of the Cob are the Boston Lodge
Works on the Ffestiniog Railway, and this is as far as the Cob goes.
Just look out for trains!
