The
Afon Dwyfor is the largest river on the peninsula and flows down from
the western slopes of Snowdonia, through Llanystumdwy and then out
into Tremadog Bay. The wooded mile or so upstream from Llanystumdwy is
very picturesque, particularly in the autumn when the leaves are
changing colour. Most of the walk is fairly level and is suitable for
all abilities, but beware of the odd tree root and uneven parts of the
path made up with rocks. From the bridge in the centre of the
village, head up the small lane upstream on the opposite side of the
river to the church, and there are openings in the wall on the side of
the road which lead past a Lloyd George memorial down to the
riverside. Walk upstream alongside the river as far as you like and
you can turn around and come back. If you would like to do a round
trip, take a turn when you see a clear path off to your right which
goes through a wall and on to a country lane. If you walk up the river
to a road bridge, you have gone too far! But not too far, so if you
turn around you should soon find the path on your left.
Once you get onto the country lane, turn right down an initial long
straight stretch, then through a farm and around some bends,
eventually you will get to a T junction, where you need to again, turn
right. You will soon find yourself back in the village at the start.
There is nice tea-shop in the village to finish off your walk!
