Welsh, or Cymraeg, is
certainly on the rise in our particular part of North Wales, Llŷn and
the surrounding areas of Snowdonia (Eryri) and Anglesey
(Ynys Môn) have the highest percentage of Welsh speakers in Wales
(Cymru), widely over 70%, ten times the percentage in the
country's capital, Cardiff (Caerdydd).
Cymraeg is now the official first
language, and all public signs/notices have to be bi lingual, most
noticeable are probably the road signs. It is not hard to come across
people speaking Cymraeg, and don't worry, they are not talking about
you, it is simply the language they use most of the time, and why not?
Cymraeg is one of the oldest languages in Europe, older than English
and often referred to as "the language of heaven".
