Y Rhiw is a hilltop community overlooking the tip
of the peninsula, with Cardigan Bay to the south and Caernarfon Bay
to the north, on a clear day views extend as far as the Wicklow
Mountains in Ireland.
Y Rhiw (just Rhiw as it is known by most) offers
plenty of excellent walking across the hill on which it stands -
Mynydd Rhiw. The summit is characterised by it's mast and in the
late summer, it's carpet of colourful heather.
This close knit community is around 3 miles from
Aberdaron and nearly 12 miles from Pwllheli.
On the southern slopes of the hill is Plas-yn-Rhiw,
now a National Trust property. This small manor house overlooks
Porth Neigwl and has an interesting past, which can be explored
inside the building and perhaps followed by a picnic in it's
wonderful gardens.
