Treasure Walk
Thanks to John Jones, now of Croydon who sent in
this information about a walk around Pwllheli:
"Hidden Treasure Walk"
"One of the more pleasant walks to be enjoyed
around Pwllheli is to take a route up Salem Terrace/Penrallt to the
top of the hill, then following the footpath skirting Pen y Garn.
(The views from here are breathtaking).
On
emerging from the path on to the road at the top of Lleyn Street
turn right and continue down the hill. (By the way Penlon Llyn -
Lleyn Street - is an alternative easier route avoiding the steeper
Salem Terrace to Penrallt). Going down the hill for some one hundred
metres or so reaching almost level road you will find on your left
this Hidden Treasure of the finest cool clear spring water.
After refreshing continue
along this minor road towards Efailnewydd until you reach the main
Nefyn to Pwllheli road, turn left at this junction in the direction
of Pwllheli. On reaching the traffic island, the junction with
the Abersoch Road, bear left towards the town.
Alternatively if you should wish to extend your
walk, at the traffic island cross directly across the road to
another footpath that passes over another hidden gem, which must be
one of the older slate bridges that cross Afon Rhyd-hir. This path
emerges close to the Pwllheli Golf Club. At this point you have
the option of turning left to lead you directly into Pwllheli again,
alternatively you can continue straight ahead emerging on the sand
dunes at the end of the West End Parade seafront. Turning left
(eastwards) will lead you back into the town via Cardiff Road or
along the seafront to return via the embankment along the harbour
side. Here you can enjoy the newly re-generated Nature Reserve."
