Llanengan is the gateway to Porth Neigwl or
Hell's Mouth as it is known to many. This four mile stretch of sand
is one of the most famous surfing spots in Wales which conditions
are right.
Llanengan itself has a historic church, the
Church of St. Einion. It is one of the oldest and said by many to be
one of the prettiest churches on the Llŷn Peninsula. It has been a
place of pilgrimage from around 1460 and was enlarged in 1520. The
church has links with the monastery on Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island).
The hills behind the village have been the site
of mining for lead and there is still evidence of this that can
still be seen today.
