Travel Tips
To help you make the most of your holiday we've compiled this page of
useful information - most is just common sense, but it's always good
to be on the safe side!
As with the rest of the UK, in case of emergency you dial 999 for the
police, ambulance, fire and also coastguard services.
If you are bringing your dog with you to Llŷn, make sure you check
with your accommodation providers that this is acceptable. It is also
worth thinking about what you will be doing with your dog if you plan
to visit any places where dogs are not allowed. Remember, dogs die in
hot cars and even on a cloudy day the sun may come out enough to
double the temperature inside your car within less than 10 minutes. If
you see a distressed dog in a car on a hot day you should ring the RSPCA on 0870 55 55 999.
It is also worth re-visiting the
countryside code whether you're taking animals with you or not on
any excursions into the countryside.
It is important that you get the
weather forecasts
and, if necessary, the
tide times
before undertaking an activity that can be affected by them. You can
get the latest information right here on Llyn.info, or from tourist
information centres. Alternatively, just ask your accommodation
providers and they should be able to help you.
Be green whilst on holiday - the environment is one of the prime
reasons people visit the Llŷn Peninsula and it is important that we
look after it now for future generations to enjoy too:
Please do not leave litter!
There cannot be bins everywhere, so please be prepared to take a bag
and collect all of your rubbish and then dispose of it back at your
accommodation - remembering to recycle what you can.
Ditch the car!
There is so much out there that cannot be explored by car and some is
so close you can walk or cycle there. Why not use public transport -
there are frequent bus services to nearly all of the villages on the
peninsula, or how about a day on the train taking in Harlech Castle,
the amusements at Barmouth or even a light lunch in Aberdyfi?
Switch off!
We have some of the least light pollution anywhere in the UK here in
west Wales. So remember to switch off any lights you don't use, and
then take advantage of the great views upwards on a clear night!
Buy Local and get a true Taste of Wales!
The Llŷn Peninsula can boast many foods that are produced right
here! Why buy something that has travelled hundred of miles when there
is a local option? This is just one way to help the local economy -
you can also eat, see and will probably be staying locally too. |
