The A487 runs through Tremadog as well as the
A498, meaning the village has good links with
Caernarfon, Beddgelert and Criccieth/Pwllheli,
plus it's only a mile from the centre of
Porthmadog, it's larger neighbour to the south.
Tremadog is a planned village, and was built on
land owned by William Madocks. The village
centre, which is mainly unaltered still today
was completed in 1891. The village is dominated
by the steep rock faces of the foothills of
Snowdonia located behind the village.
These rock faces are popular with climbers,
though some have had to be closed off as they
are no longer deemed as safe. Eric Jones, who is
famed for climbing rock faces much further
afield has a cafe at the foot of the cliffs,
ideal as a warm up afterwards!
