Lying in the broad valley between Mynydd Rhiw and Garn Fadryn is the small community of Botwnnog. The village is on the B4413 Llanbedrog to Aberdaron road. The village is home to the main doctor surgery for the western part of the peninsula, as well as a primary school and the main secondary school which serves a wide area from Aberdaron to Mynytho.

The village also has a busy church, popular with visitors during the main holiday season. The Afon Soch runs along the south and west of the village on route from Sarn further upstream, to Abersoch at it's mouth.
